For What It's Worth
the process of dyeing with acid paints
Next time when you hear someone complaining about the hand dyed yarn price send them to that video.
Filmed by the famous couple Natalie and Kent from Love in Stitches, who were living in their van and traveling across the United States and Canada (and hopefully next year Europe) to present family owned yarn shops, small independent mills and sheep farms with sustainable practices and best care to their flocks.
And in this episode showing the professionalism in action on the scenes of Polka Dot Creek’s self-striping dyeing method.
As I’ve told you before, I do have experience with acid dye, but not expertise to explain it with all concerns for your safety, so better learn from the experts.
I’m kinda annoyed how customers underestimate how much work evolving the making of one skein. Actually for the end of the month I’m preparing a schedule of one hand dyeing day. Stay tuned.
Worth to mention also, that when people complain how expensive wool is become, I’m hearing how they don’t realize that 5 to 8kg yarn have to pay the food and vet bills for whole year of that sheep. And because their contra argument will be that the pets get the similar care for free, let me assure you that the numbers matter. I dare everyone, who thinks that will can give a fleece for free, to prove it! Last time when I fostered a dozen cats was exactly how I gained huge debt. The only people who are able to keep pet sheep are those with stable side business to cover their life standard. Unfortunately even the animal sanctuaries have to support themselves financially by allowing visitors, selling merch and/or fleece. I’ve experienced that firsthand, being someone whose grandparents give up from a sheep farm. So the whole idea that wool yarn should be some common and accessible supplies for cheap hobby is nonsense to me! A person deserves some lux in their life.
Allow yourself unapologetically to use the most gorgeous expensive hand dyed yarn for a pair of socks, with the same ease that you‘d would wearing a Hermès pair, just because you DESERVED it.

Well said, Alex. So many people have no idea of the time, effort and materials that go into hand crafted supplies or items.
